New chamber: “If not today, tomorrow it would happen”---Blay

A former first Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament on the ticket of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and now chairman of the ruling government Frederick Worsemao Armah Blay, has waded into the suspended building of a new chamber.

According to Frederick Worsemao Armah Blay, “if not today, tomorrow” the building of the new chamber for Ghana’s Legislature would happen.

“We need to analyze and interrogate this issue of the new chamber, it would have to happen, yes, may be the timing and packaging did not go well, even the Parliamentarians themselves have not discussed it”, he said in an interview.

He further added that it is government that has to budget for it and was surprised at the reaction of the public with the news of the new chamber.

According to him, in a video on the issue of the new chamber “I have seen a soldier angry over the issue, “it may be he is not well informed about how the whole thing would be as I said, it has to do with the packaging”.

“When we wanted to put up the Akosombo dam, Tema Motorway, Tema harbor and even the current Jubilee House, seat of government, people talk against it some said we do not need it. Definitely we need more hospitals and roads; we would not have adequate in everything”.

“Let me be honest with you I have been in current chamber as a former first Deputy Speaker, what we have currently architecture wise was not meant for Parliament, it has been modify, we have been talking about some few years back a President had even talked about getting a new chamber”.

“Our time we were talking about building a Parliamentary village, he also pointed out that he had seen new chamber being built in other jurisdiction, talk of Australia, Canada and Uganda, the way it was presented made people a bit  angry and frustrated”.
